Voting in America

By now you have finished the political ideology quiz and you are certainly wondering what it all means...well before you find out your results I want you to do the following:

1. Investigate the following ideological terms (look them up, read about them, think about them, draw a picture describing them, whatever you need to do so you clearly understand them)
  • liberal, conservative, libertarian, and populist.
2. After you have a clear understanding of them, I want you to self select what % of each you think you are ideologically. The numbers must add up to 100%. For example I could be 50% Populist, 15% Conservative, 15% Liberal, 20% Libertarian.

3. Comment on why you chose those numbers for yourself.

I miss all of you but I am having a great time making fun of kids with saggy pants and lip rings. Hope to see many of you at the game Thursday!

the thread that holds us together daddy west.

anyways. i would say, 30% liberal, because from what i can deduct, liberals view that there should be equal opportunities for everyone, which i agree with. but that doesnt mean that the government should reduce everyone or foster some groups in efforts to make them equal, especially if they are inequal simply because they are lazy.

10% conservative because i do believe that the history can teach us many things, but it is important to remember that as times change, so do opinions and therefore so must policies.

40% libertarian, this appeals most to me because what i pull away from this is that government should do its minimum to interfere with people. the problem is is that naturally gifted people and the smart people are elevated to the top of the food chain, while the less fortunate fall to the bottom of the class struggle, this creates a rift that leads to revolution. in essence, libertarianism sounds good to me, let me do what i want basically, but it just isnt practical when you look at the tendencies of human nature to violence.

20% populist deng this one is so close to perfect, except the whole, government should rule everything thing. the only problem with this philosophy is that governments tend to run with power, just look at George Orwell's 1984. enough said.

Well the future of Clark is looking pretty grim since you've left, they're doing away with block scheduling, we can no longer wear costumes on Halloween, best of awards have been abolished, and a bunch of other stuff. They even tried unsuccessfully to make everyone sit during lunch.

Anyway, I'd have to say that I'm 75% liberal, 15% libertarian, 7% conservative, and 3% populist. Look up liberalism on Wikipedia and you'll see why I agree with it so much, especially in areas such as civil rights and the environment. I do think, however, that the government shouldn't overdo their role in the lives of their citizens and that's why libertarian is has the second largest percentage. As for conservatism, I almost completely disagree with the idea that people should drag their feet to make changes, especially in the modern world with so many different cultures interacting with each other. The only good thing about is that we do need to learn from history in order to avoid previously made mistakes. As for populism, I believe that this is the most deceiving political ideology ever. Privacy, individualism, art, literature, and a bunch of other important things would be censored, manipulated, and controlled to maximize "efficiency." Just look at the Soviet Union, George Orwell's 1984, Huxley's Brave New World, and Aynn Rand's Anthem to see that this is a bad idea.

Oh yeah, and here's another example that populism doesn't work: how the administration here is trying to run the school.

Man, I've been meaning to get to this, but I just haven't got around to it till now.
Anyway, I'd have to say about 51% Libertarian, due to the fact that individual liberties are pretty important, and as for the rest, I really like the fact that the Libertarian belief system is left up to the individual, so long as it doesn't violate the rights of others. That's pretty cool.
From there on probably about 40% Liberal, because it's extremely similar to Libertarianism, 7% populist, because it's against the Elitists, and 2% conservative, because I like 2% milk. Not really, that stuff is too creamy, but actually just because some things deserve a conservative view.

Mr. Kramer is cool and all, but he is no substitute for Mr. West.
